Quick Guide: Engaging as a regulator
01 September 2024
How to engage with people affected by the law in ways that build trust and strong relationships, and lead to better decision making.
About us
The Ministry for Regulation is a small government agency with a big job to do. We’re responsible for helping other government agencies make their rules and regulations easier for New Zealanders to understand and navigate.
Strategic Intentions 2024/25-2028/29
10 September 2024
Our te reo name
The Ministry for Regulation worked with Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori – The Māori Language Commission to develop a te reo Māori name to sit alongside our English name. The name suggested by Te Taura Whiri is Te Manatū Waeture.
About regulatory reviews
We want rules and regulations to enable New Zealanders to do more – to lead to a more productive use of people’s time, and better outcomes for all.
Clarifying ECE licensing misconception to make things easier
We initiated our first regulatory review into early childhood education (ECE) in June this year.
Disclosure statements for government legislation
Agencies need to prepare and publish a disclosure statement to accompany the introduction of most government Bills and Amendment Papers to Parliament.
Information and guidelines: Regulatory Services Technical Capability Framework
01 June 2021
This framework provides managers and staff with a basis for learning and development conversations, progression and decision-making. The capabilities outlined in this document reflect the integration of knowledge, attributes, and experience that when used appropriately will drive effective performance. When working through this guide please note the term ‘regulator’ applies to all RS roles, not just the regulator role in RS.
Regulatory stewardship
We provide system leadership, set standards for good regulatory practice, and support agencies with their regulatory stewardship responsibilities.
