Guidance on creating a registry regime

This document provides a guide for: 1) considering a register and seeking to understand risks and benefits of a register versus other regulatory options 2) those directed to create a register and seeking to maximise the effectiveness and operational ease of a register 3) those who have a clear policy rationale and would like ideas for what to include in design of your register Can be used in conjunction with 'Roadmap to a registry regime' tool.
Our work
The Ministry for Regulation is the central steward of New Zealand’s Regulatory Management System. We work with other regulators across the public sector to improve the quality of regulation so all New Zealanders can flourish.
Our people
The Senior Leadership Team (SLT) at the Ministry for Regulation hold a diverse range of skills, knowledge and extensive experience. They play a crucial role in guiding the Ministry as we shape the future of New Zealand’s regulatory landscape.
Our te reo name
The Ministry for Regulation worked with Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori – The Māori Language Commission to develop a te reo Māori name to sit alongside our English name. The name suggested by Te Taura Whiri is Te Manatū Waeture.

The capabilities outlined in this document reflect the integration of knowledge, attributes, and experience that when used appropriately will drive effective performance. When working through this guide please note the term ‘regulator’ applies to all RS roles, not just the regulator role in RS.
