Modern rules, better connections
26 March 2026
The Ministry for Regulation has released its Telecommunications Sector Regulatory Review.
The Review found that outdated rules are making innovation difficult, the rules governing the sector are overly complex and hard to navigate, and regulations are not proportionate to risk.
We have recommended:
- streamlining fibre regulation to remove duplication
- improving telecommunications levy models to reduce compliance burden
- improving consumer protection by making rules clearer and easier to use
- encouraging a more balanced, transparent regulatory approach.
