About regulatory reviews
We want rules and regulations to enable New Zealanders to do more – to lead to a more productive use of people’s time, and better outcomes for all.
What is a regulatory review?
Regulatory reviews enable the Ministry for Regulation (the Ministry) to:
- engage with people impacted by regulation, and
- identify how existing regulation could or should be improved.
When we conduct a review, it may be broad and look at a whole sector, or it may look at a specific aspect of a regulatory system instead.
Our review framework
We use a Regulatory Review Framework to help us choose and carry out our reviews. This process uses evidence to make sure regulation helps people and businesses by protecting and enabling, rather than getting in the way. See an overview of the framework.
Engaging with a review
Each regulatory review is developed with a tailored engagement plan that takes particular audiences and stakeholders into consideration. Sector reviews are targeted, to ensure the individuals and organisations affected by specific rules and regulations have the opportunity to engage in the process.
Have your say on our reviews
You can have a say on our current regulatory reviews through our engagement hub.
The hub is our platform for feedback. You can use it to:
- give us your feedback on our current reviews
- access relevant review-related material, such as Terms of Reference, reports or issues papers
- read our findings and final recommendations on completed reviews.
